Earth Online
After years of adding mini-websites for different events and initiatives, the content was scattered across many pages. It rquired review and update. Also, the design was outdated and needed a fresh look. With the goal of consolidating all the knowledge in one place, we started work on the new portal.
In the first step, we planned a new information architecture and created a new design for the main website related to earth observation, Earth Online. Then, we developed and deployed a new content management system. This gave a foundation for migrating all the content into a single place.
For the CMS, we selected Liferay, which is a powerful, enterprise-level solution. We chose Liferay, because it is built to handle high-traffic and complex, multi-site environments with diverse user roles. It offers both scalability and flexibility at the same time.
To ensure that all the valuable knowledge is available and up-to-date, we analysed and classified content from 81 mini-websites. To accommodate it, we added new articles on the main portals or created completely new features, such as galleries or FAQ.
Together with ESA, we archived all valuable scientific publications that were outdated or obsolete.
In the following years after the main website redesign, we introduced further enhancements:
After deploying the new website, introducing new features and SEO enhancements, the traffic on the website grew from 6.000 to 30.000 monthly visits.
